Skeiðvellir / Árheimar
The team Skeiðvellir / Árheimar, that was called Eques / Kingsland last year, has some new riders on board. This year’s team members are Davíð Jónsson, Sigursteinn Sumarliðason, Matthías Leó Matthíasson, Sólon Morthens and Janus Halldór Eiríksson.
Davíð Jónsson works at Skeiðvellir. Davíð has been really successful on the pace track these last years, riding Irpa frá Borgarnesi. They won the 100m. pace race at Landsmót 2012 in Reykjavík, became Icelandic Champions in PP1 pace test in 2019 and in 150m. pace in 2017.
Matthías Leó Matthíasson is training horses at Hvoll, Ölfus. He has been training horses for more than 14 years now for example at Leirubakki, Kjartansstaðir and Þjóðólfshagi. Matthías won the four gait at the Reykjavík championship in 2015 and became fourth at the Icelandic championship same year. Matthías was the third in tölt T2 and in finals in tölt T1 at the Icelandic championship 2019. His best result in Meistaradeildin so far is the second place in Fourgait in 2020.
Sigursteinn Sumarliðason works at Ármót. Sigursteinn has gotten good results at the competition track both in sport and gæðinga competitions and on the breeding track. Sigursteinn has been a World Champion in PP1 pace test, Icelandic Champion and a double Landsmótswinner in tölt, 2011 and 2012. He has the best time in 250 m pace in 2020.
Sólon Morthens graduated as a trainer and riding instructor from Hólar in 2010. He has been active as a competition rider as well as showing horses in breeding shows. Sólon has i.e. been both in finals at Landsmót and Icelandic Championships. He runs a training stable, with his wife Þórey, at Hrosshagi in Biskupstungur, where they work with horses in all stages and also do riding lessons.
Janus Halldór Eiríksson works at Laugarbakkar, training horses. He has a good record showing breeding horses and has presented many good horses. He has also been quite successful in competitions i.e. on Barði frá Laugarbökkum.
